His Holiness on Holy Land
When Adi told me that he was about to listen to the Dalai Lama's lecture, I thought he was in Dharamsala after my own pilgrimage. But in fact he was still in Tel Aviv, answering my SMS that there was no need to worry about drinking water which I suggested. Then I found the news about the spiritual leader's visit in Israel. Unlike what my friend had once argued with me that the "oriental way" could hardly apply to their national situation because of the difference of culture and history, I am quite glad to read on their media:A nonviolent religion is such a rarity that the Dalai Lama's willingness to influence the world through it, rather than just lobbying for Tibet, makes him a figure to be respected and followed. (from Haaretz)And even more joyful that my friend found him amazing after the lecture.

His friend had indeed an extraordinary and special encounter, meeting HHDL. It felt as if it were in person.HHDL gave several lectures in Israel. The one his friend attended had approximately 2,500 people, but to the surprise it still felt intimate. His friend remembered the time he almost went with Steven to Taiwan to listen to HHDL and was decisive to be present at the current lecture in Israel. 3 weeks before the lecture, all the tickets were sold out, but in the last minute there was a miracle that paved the way to join the lecture. The application of non-violence and peaceful mind theories is an ideal, which every human being should try to stick to. It assists every one of us to live better in our difficult daily life, to accept our misfortunes and losses and to march with a smile to the future, hoping it will bring lots of good surprises, despite our misfortune. HHDL spoke about concern to others. Every one of us should be more sensitive to his fellow human being, to open his/her heart from a point of compassion to the other person. Not once did someone look at me, if on the road, if on another occasion, with an angry look. I, on my side, smiled because I didn't mean to cause anguish to the other side and I pitied him/her that they became so agitated for virtually nothing. The other person, within seconds, changed and not once we parted with good vibes and laughing about out encounter 5 minutes before. I feel very much concerned to the people around me and not only to my close friends. I feel it strengthens me and whenever something misfortunate happens,I am stronger from the inside and ready to cope. Israel as a nation would love to have peace with its neighbours. It's not easy, however, to apply the non-violence rules when the parties part in their ideology. The Nazis killed 6 million Jews, the "peaceful" liberation of Tibet had 1 million toll (if I'm not mistaken) - do we wish to continue sitting and be slaughtered as sheep? the horrible truth we saw in the last few weeks with the reaction of the Moslem world to Muhammad's caricatures- we saw how the Embassies of our friends, The Swedish, The Norwegian, The Danish and more, were put on fire, with hatred in the eyes. what for and why? difference in mentality. Violence there is the mother of all solutions. How sorry I am for them, for their children of what they are being taught, for us and for the entire world who suffers from it. Once, people thought that Israel is a belligerent country, but I think that in the last few years the world has learnt through very painful lessons, that Israel wishes to apply HHDL non violence rules in its everyday life with its neighbours, esp. the Palestinian, but the application will cost us in many of our live (many more to the current situation) and we're not willing to bear it. "Thou who saves one life, as if he saved the entire world" Judaism says and we believe in it. Every soul is important and we can't apply the "sit and be slaughtered" approach. It's too high a toll for us. This is why we fight back with tears in our eyes and shaky hands. We yearn for the moment that they will feel no hate as I don't, that they will cease the violence but instead they educate their children for hate and they send their children to blow themselves up among pregnant women and children. It's hard, but I still feel compassion for them. Do they feel the same for me?!
I hope I could transfer some of my toughts after HHDL's lecture to you. Have a peaceful and fruitful week.
